Kitten Safety Tips

If its one thing that kittens love to do, its play! Kittens are a bundle of energy and are naturally very curious. One thing your should keep in mind however, is their saftey. Below are a set of easy to follow safety tips that will help keep your kitten safe and healthy during their playtime.

• Be careful when your kitten plays with yarn, ribbon, or other similar items such as cassette tapes. The kitten could get them wrapped around their necks and get scared. Always make sure they are supervised when playing with these items.

• Install child proof latches on all your lower cabinets. Kittens are smart and will poke their head at the cabinet door seam and pry open cabinets.

• Always ensure that screens in windows and balcony doors are closed. Kittens and all cats love to sit at the window.

• If you have alot of exotic plants in your home, consider asking your vet if they are all safe. Some plants can be harmful to your kitten if eaten.

• Dont let your kitty play with or chew on the electrical cords. Use cord covers or spray the anti-cat spray lightly on the cords while they are unplugged and let it dry completely before plugging back in.

• Get down on your knees and explore around the rooms! This helps you see what it is your kitty sees. You may find some dangerous things you never thought about when your at the catseye view.

• Never let kittens or cats play with plastic bags.

• Make sure your kitten stays out of the trash. Cats and dogs alike love to look in the trash out of natural curiosity and because of the food smells.

• Be careful of your kitten when they are playing around fold up furniture, daybeds, and recliners. The scissor motion of these pieces of furniture when they close could hurt your kitty.

• Dont let your kitten get behind the washer or dryers.

• A good rule of thumb is to also think about general safety. If something could be unsafe for a baby or adult person, it is most likely unsafe for cats as well!
