Aquarium Plants

Are you considering an aquarium, or do you want to add some life to an aquarium that you already have? If your aquarium is bare and in need of some items to go along with the fish, consider adding aquarium plants. Aquarium plants are an inexpensive and fun way to bring some life to your aquarium setup.

Plants are a Good Idea

Aquariums are fun to look at, entertaining, and are often the only types of pets allowed in many apartments, dorm rooms, and elderly care centers. Most people who own aquariums love to add extra items to make the scenery more interesting, as well as to give the inhabitants something of a natural setting, even it its just some plastic scenery. Some add pebbles and all sorts of objects like little rock structures, and many have some sort of aquarium plants as well. For all fish, aquarium plants help them feel more comfortable in their surroundings as well.

Plastic Plants

By far the most common types of aquarium plants are the plastic variety. Live plants are available as well. With live plants however you need to be sure you get the right type of plant, since they may be salt water or fresh water variety. Live plants will also make the water a bit dirtier, and they can get sick and die just like the fish can. I definately recommend plastic plants for fish unless you are planning on a very large and extensive tank system.

When to Use Live Plants

I have read that a better time to have live aquarium plants is when you have a turtle, frog, or a toad living in your aquarium. Turtles need water, but they also need dry land. The same can be said of frogs and turtles. You could have plastic aquarium plants in this case, but live ones are prefered. They would certainly give a more life-like feel to the aquarium, and the animal might feel more at home in there in this case. The idea is to find easy to maintain plants in this situation so you dont have alot of maintenance issues.

Find More Information

If you are still sure on what to do about your aquarium, ask someone at your local pet store. I have found that independant pet stores, or very large pet stores have far more knowledge about pets in general than the small pet stores at the local mall. The internet is an extremely good place to look for information about aquariums, fish, and anything you can think of. In general, aquarium plants are a non-issue and really are a cheap way to add some beauty and life to your aquarium setting.
