Animal Careers

Have you ever considered a career with animals? Do you love animals and would like to work with them everyday? Currently in the US alone, Americans spend billions of dollars on their pets care and health every year. This spending is increasing at a steady rate. Animal careers can not only be fun and what you want to do with your life, they could be very lucrative as well.

We Love Animals

Although there has been an increase in different types of non traditional pets in the last few years, the family dog and cat are still by far the most popular. We have 2 cats of our own as well as a dog. Our pets are well cared for and loved. They are treated as member of the family. They are even given presents on Christmas and we recognize their birthdays as well. We talk to them like they are our children. There is no doubt about it, we love our animals.

Consider Becoming a Vet

Although both myself and my wife love our animals, my wife has a special bond with them. She has always been interested in anything and everything having to do with animals. She loves to watch Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel. She always said that she was interested in careers with animals. When she was younger, whenever she had to do a presentation or research paper about planning for her future she would research careers with animals. Every time she would do additional research she would end up changing her mind on what she wanted to do. I thought she would concentrate on zoology or animal biology but when she began looking at different universities to attend. She concentrated on schools where she could receive her veterinary degree. Of all the careers with animals that she could concentrate on she picked the career with the longest time commitment, but also the one that could be the most rewarding in the end.

Hard Work Pays Off

When my wife started vet school, it was very hard work. She has admitted it was the hardest thing she has ever done. Veterinary science is a very competitive and difficult field to get into. She could have just settled with becoming a vet tech, but she decided to go all the way. However, if you are younger and considering the veterinary field, becoming a vet tech, or even just working around an animal hospital or animal shelter can give you not only valuable experience, but give you a feel for what a long term career will really be like. Keep working at it, you can do it!
